Apartment, Independent Living Community

Sensitivity to changing abilities and appreciation for cherished possessions were key in helping this person transition from a home of 40 years to an apartment in an independent living community. From his existing furnishings, artwork, and mementos, I helped him choose the pieces that would serve him best in his new home and found some new ones to create a space that was both excitingly fresh and comfortably familiar. Ergonomics for an aging individual were carefully integrated (e.g., walk paths; cabinet heights and depths) without making the home feel institutional.
